Trends in criminal justice spending, staffing and populations 2008-2009 to 2017-2018

The Centre's latest report, Trends in criminal justice spending, staffing and populations 2008-2009 to 2017-2018, published today, examines the real terms spending and staffing trends across the three criminal justice jurisdictions of the UK.

With analysis across police services, law courts and prisons, the briefing concludes that, in aggregate terms, the criminal justice footprint across the UK has reduced significantly in the ten years to 2017-2018 with spending in Northern Ireland experiencing the sharpest cuts.

Our founder's art exhibited in Camden Arts Centre

As well as being our organisation's founder, Dr Grace Pailthorpe was also a surgeon and artist.

Her paintings, in collaboration with Reuben Mednikoff, are on display at a new exhibition, A Tale of Mother's Bones at Camden Arts Centre.

The exhibition will be on until 23 June.

Latest coverage of Plan for Holloway

Plan for Holloway latest update

On Saturday 30th March around 60 local people gathered at St George’s Church in Tufnell Park for an emergency meeting to discuss the announcement that Peabody housing association had bought the Holloway prison site and would be developing it in partnership with private property developer London Square.

Joint call for closure of child prisons

The campaign to End Child Imprisonment has today published Principles and minimum expectations for children deprived of their liberty, which provides a framework for addressing harmful behaviour and supporting vulnerable children outside of prison settings.

Violence: prevention, public health and social justice - aims to outline a framework for determining how violence reduction for everyone can be effectively achieved. The project is being done in partnership with Unison.
