I would give up... the psychological services

Tuesday, 11 March 2014

As part of our Justice Matters initiative we are challenging people to think about a criminal justice practice, policy or institution to abolish or abstain from.

It can be conventional or unconventional – the choice is up to you. The challenge isn’t just about abolishing something. We are keen to build alternatives – so we want to encourage people to put forward ideas for something positive.

I would give up the psychological services because many of the staff are ignorant - even of basic psychology - incompetent or unethical; a significant number lack the maturity to undertake the jobs assigned to them, the psychology they purport to use is irrelevant to the needs of the majority of prisoners - their judgements are no advance on mediaeval witchcraft - they are responsible for significant harms through emotional abuse of prisoners which adversely affect the rehabilitation of prisoners.

Instead, I would like to see greatly improved educational services.
