Our revised version of the report issued in 2008 clarifies the budgetary and staffing crisis that has been confronting the Probation Service.
It was commissioned by Napo, the trade union and professional association for family court and probation staff. Based on interviews with probation staff, reports by probation areas, and an in-depth analysis of financial and workforce statistics, the research portrays the Service struggling to cope and facing budget uncertainties amid moves towards the promotion of competition and potential privatisation.
