The Prison Service Journal is delighted to announce the launch of its first Editorial Development Scheme.
The Editorial Development Scheme (EDS) is a new initiative, by the Prison Service Journal (PSJ), which seeks to offer supportive experiences to those who have previously not engaged with editorial work.
The EDS is coordinated by Dr Lewis Simpson, who is a member of the PSJ Editorial Board.
The EDS scheme aims to build a supportive community that encourages high-quality reviewing and publishing among a diverse range of contributors, including MoJ and HMPPS staff, prison employees, doctoral students, and early career researchers across England and Wales.
By connecting those new to academic journals with experienced editors and reviewers, the initiative aims to foster learning through collaboration and hands-on experience. Central to this effort is a commitment to inclusive, practice-focused research and editorial development, ensuring that the PSJ's values drive a initiative that nurtures future contributors, while building a editorial team that reflects the breadth of academics, researchers, frontline staff, and policy professionals working in the prison sector.
What’s on offer?
The PSJ is offering three EDS placements/positions. Successful applications to the EDS will result in a fixed-term membership to the PSJ Editorial Board for a period of two years. This includes the following annual commitments:
- Attending three full board meetings (online), including some minimal preparation.
- Attending four meetings with the EDS Lead
- To peer review two journal articles with support from a PSJ reviewing partner.
- The option to write an article to be submitted to the PSJ for publication consideration.
This is not a paid position, and members of the EDS will be giving their time on a voluntary basis.
