UK's authority weakened by EU vote

Tuesday, 16 July 2013

Professor Ed Cape of the University of the West of England, has written on the Centre's website about the recent parliamentary vote to opt out of 130 EU justice and crime measures. He writes:

'Until now, respect for the British criminal justice systems... amongst other EU member states has been high, and in some respects Britain has provided a lead... Opting out of the crime and justice provisions is a backward step which is not only bad for British interests at home, but will inevitably lead to a reduction in Britain’s moral authority in Europe and beyond.'

Ed is also one of the Centre's trustees.
