Needless deaths

Hospital trusts will be asked to check case notes of about 100 patients who died while undergoing treatment to calculate 'needless' deaths to help work out how many NHS deaths are avoidable each year. This has been proposed by Prof Nick Black of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Approx 215,000 patients die per annum and it has been estimated that up to 12,000 adults die needlessly in the NHS each year, reports The Guardian
