Strangeways anniversary

Wednesday, 1 April 2020

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the start of the Strangeways protests.

We were due to hold a conference, After Strangeways: The Past, Present and Future of Prisons, at King's College London to commemorate the longest prison protest in British history.

Although our event has been postponed due to the public health crisis, we have published a series of articles over the course of 2020 so far by our speakers on the topic of the protests and the acute problems continuing to face our prison system now. Take some time during this period of isolation to learn about this significant turning point in our prisons history and the challenges ahead.
