Richard Garside comments on overcrowding in prisons.

Prisons will reportedly reach bursting point by the end of this year, fuelled by the demand for spaces as a result of longer sentencing according to The Times

The prison population has reached over 80,000 at this point, with overcrowding and deteriorating prison conidtions putting the system in a crisis of violence and self-harm over recent years. The Conservative promise to hire more police officers puts an added pressure on a system already overcrowded and beset with problems. 

On prison overcrowding and conditions, Richard said:

I dare say a way will be found to cram ever more prisoners into cells. This is no way to run a prison system.
