Partners or Prisoners?

Partners or Prisoners? Voluntary sector independence in the world of commissioning and contestability, a Centre for Crime and Justice Studies report on the voluntary sector's involvement in the criminal justice system.

The report draws together themes from a debate held as part of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies annual event for 2008, which featured a panel composed of:

  • Tina Jenkins (Ministry of Justice)
  • Clive Martin (Clinks) and
  • Matthew Smerdon (The Baring Foundation).

The event was chaired by Mark Easton (BBC) and raised a number of issues, including:

  • identity and independence;
  • the changing nature of work;
  • shaping contracts;
  • the third sector and the market of punishment.
