Last month, we joined a growing group of organisations who have become ‘Friends’ of the National Women’s Justice Coalition (NWJC).
Established in September 2021, the NWJC is dedicated to achieving social justice for women by driving transformative changes within the criminal justice system to reduce stigmatisation and improve outcomes for women and girls.
The Friends network – which includes Women in Prison, User Voice, Prison Reform Trust, Revolving Doors, the Centre for Women’s Justice, the Centre for Justice Innovation and Agenda Alliance – now stands at 17 organisations.
Friends of the NWJC are typically recognised as criminal justice specialists with established track records of high-quality service delivery, or of policy, research or campaigning work. They also need to evidence ethical and transparent partnership working with women’s specialist organisations.
Earlier this year, we collaborated with NWJC on the publication of Breaking out of the Justice Loop, a ground-breaking analysis of why the justice system continues to fail women, and what needs to change.
Speaking today, our Director, Richard Garside, said,
We are delighted to have become a Friend of the National Women’s Justice Coalition, an organisation we have long admired for its consistent and principled championing of women in the justice system.
Building on our earlier collaboration with the NWJC on the Breaking out of the Justice Loop report, we are committed to supporting its work, and the important work of its partner organisations.
