After the King has spoken, what next?
Our expert panel discussed the crime and justice elements of the government’s programme, announced in the King’s Speech on 17 July, and the challenges they will face in implementation.
Virtually every part of the criminal justice system faces stress, strain and crisis. Will the measures announced in parliament make a difference? What’s promising, what’s worrying, and what’s don’t know?
With untested ministerial teams, and a parliament dominated by new faces, what will be the pitfalls and challenges faced by the government as it seeks to pass and implement its programme?
Joining us to discuss these questions, and more, were:
- Rob Allen, researcher and consultant on criminal justice and prisons
- Baroness Claire Fox, writer, journalist, lecturer and politician who sits in the House of Lords as a non-affiliated life peer
- Professor Jen Hendry, Director of the Graduate School for the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Leeds
- Dr Rory Kelly, lecturer in Law, University of Galway
