We give evidence to MPs on crime reduction policies

Friday, 31 January 2014

Our Director Richard Garside gave evidence to MPs on the Justice Committee this week, as part of their inquiry into crime reduction policies.

Richard told the MPs that talk about 'overall' crime rates was a major source of confusion. Different crime types had different causes and it was important to look at them in their variety. Richard also told the MPs that the various criminal justice agencies had little impact on long-term trends in crime.

Richard also wrote a piece for the Open Democracy website, explaining why we should downsize criminal justice to make us safer.
