Global warming down to big firms

New research accepted for publication by the Climate Change journal has suggested that the climate crisis of the 21st century has largely been caused by 90 companies who between them have produced nearly two-thirds of greenhouse gas emissions since the dawning of the industrial age.

The analysis, which was welcomed by former US Vice-President Al Gore, found that it was a wide range of companies - from state owned outfits to household names such as Chevron - but most of the firms were in the businesses of producing oil, gas or coal.

Last month the International Agency for Research on Cancer published a report claiming that air pollution from traffic and industrial fumes was a cause of lung cancer and was linked to bladder cancer.
