David Nutt wins science prize

Tuesday, 5 November 2013

Professor David Nutt, chair of the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs (ISCD) has been awarded the 2013 John Maddox Prize for Standing up for Science.

The Centre for Crime and Justice Studies helped David Nutt set up the ISCD in 2010 to champion the importance of evidence and knowledge in the shaping of drugs policy. This followed his dismissal as Chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs following the speech he gave to us in 2009 on the role of science in drugs policy.

Read the speech David gave, that so upset the then Home Secretary Alan Johnson, here.
