Coalition calls for closure of all child prisons

A coalition of more than 70 organisations have called for party manifestos to pledge an end to the imprisonment of children. 

We are a member of the campaign to end child imprisonment led by Article 39, who last week published a series of 30 pledges which included a demand to close child prisons.

As the government prepares to build its first secure school for young offenders on the Medway secure training centre, the coalition urges the parties to stop the criminalisation of children and raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility.
