£300m fine for UK's failure to reduce air pollution

The European Commission plans to impose a £300 million fine on the UK for failing to meet the 2010 target to reduce levels of nitrogen dioxide in the air. Around 29,000 people are known to die prematurely every year from air pollution, which can cause cancer and affects the growth of children's lungs, reports The Independent.
