Care reforms to push the vulnerable aside

Wednesday, 23 October 2013

Research by the London School of Economics has revealed that thousands of elderly and disabled people will no longer receive funding towards the cost of the care they require on a daily basis, The Daily Telegraph reports.

The government has promised to cap the total costs of care at £72,000. But in order to qualify for state support above that level claimants will have to demonstrate that they are experiencing life threatening conditions or face abuse or neglect.

The Centre has been working with others to develop a social harm perspective, which highlights how harmful social arrangements can have a much greater impact on life quality than many routine crimes that are the focus of the criminal justice process. We will be doing more work on this in the future.
