Julia is a former Director and Trustee of the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies. Her previous experience includes work as a tutor and counsellor for the Open University, a prison tutor, and the first coordinator of a community education project for ex-offenders in South London.

She works currently as a freelance consultant and researcher specialising in voluntary sector evaluations, with the Centre for Strategy and Communications, and with the Prison Reform Trust, for whom she is minute taker for the All Party Parliamentary Penal Affairs Group.  

Voluntary commitments include trusteeships (past and present) for a number of charities. Currently she is:

  • Branch committee chair, as well as listener, for the Samaritans.
  • Reader for National Talking Newspapers and Magazines (part of the RNIB).
  • Trustee of her local Citizens Advice Bureau and chair of the fundraising committee.
