CCJS Comments on Knife Amnesty Figures (14/07/06)

Commenting today on the official release of the number of knives handed in during the national knife amnesty Chris Eades, Policy and Information Officer at the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies at King's College London, said:

“The disposal of offensive weapons is to be welcomed, but as long as we use knives in our kitchens there will be ample opportunity for people to carry and use knives in crime. The amnesty approach confuses the removal of implements with addressing the root causes of violence and knife carrying. It is the latter that should be the focus of government action.”
