The Inside Out Trust - restorative work in prisons - what is the impact?
Restorative projects in prison encourage prisoners to take part in work for good causes. The Inside Out Trust organises prison projects across England and Wales that provide services such as recycling wheelchairs or Braille translation.
It has commissioned a study to design and pilot a monitoring system that can help demonstrate project impacts on prisoners, on the prison service and on the beneficiaries of the work. The information will be used to develop a larger evaluation project that should start in 2006.
The project is managed by Applied Research in Community Safety UK (ARCS-UK) in partnership with the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies (CCJS), and with the active support of colleagues from the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford.
