Support the Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs

Professor David Nutt, working with the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies, has established an independent scientific committee on drug harms. You can watch David talking about his plans below:

The Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs first met on Thursday January 14th and held a launch press conference on Friday January 15th.

The dismissal of Professor Nutt for simply discussing the scientific evidence base in his professional capacity as a Professor at Imperial College made clear the need for an independent body to evaluate and report on the scientific work on both legal and illegal drug harms.

Tens of thousands of people have shown support for the stance that Professor Nutt has taken. Many across the scientific community have also expressed support. We hope that you will all show support, in the first instance, by joining the ISCD (Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs) mailing list, and also by offering to make a donation, of whatever you can afford, to support the work of the ISCD. Barring the small administration fee that is taken by PayPal, all of the money that you donate will be used to set up and continue the work of the ISCD. In the New Year we will be establishing a 'Friends of ISCD' mailing list and anyone offering a donation will receive notifications of the work of the ISCD and associated matters.

At the Centre we were proud to invite Professor Nutt to speak at our annual Eve Saville lecture in July 2009 and also to publish the paper that the Home Secretary so objected to. With your support we hope to establish the ISCD as an independent body in the near future and hope that you will join us in this aim and support the development of independent evidence based policy in the public interest.
